YNS Challenge #55 mermaid card

Hi!

I've got a card for Your Next Stamp Challenge #55 today using the sketch! This is my first card with Your Next Stamp products (I ordered 4 of their stamp sets with a Christmas gift card from Simon Says Stamp) and my first time joining in with one of their challenges!  I'm kind of crazy about this little mermaid and I hope you like her because she'll show up quite a few times here on my blog :)

So here's my card!

I still need more practice with the no-line coloring (and watercolor in general...) but I can definitely see improvement so that counts for something right?!

So, to start, I cut a piece of Bristol watercolor paper down to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and stamped the mermaid on it inWPlus9 Fairy Dust ink, (it's waterproof but super a super light color) I colored the mermaid with my Zig Clean Color watercolor pens (I'm kind of loving the color of the waves around her rock, definitely my favorite of all of the water I've ever colored!) I die cut a circle out of masking paper and used the negative image to mask off a circle around the mermaid, then I stamped and cut out a mask for her, and a straight line mask for the horizon and added some ink blending with Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress ink for the sky. I added some details on her face and the crab with a black pen and then added some shimmer to her tail and the water with a Wink of Stella pen. I trimmed down the watercolor piece to 3 3/4" wide and stamped the sentiment with Black Hero Arts ink and then adhered the fishing net piece in between the sentiment and mermaid. I stamped the shells in Fairy Dust ink on some more Bristol paper and colored them with my Zig pens and fussy cut them out. I stuck them in the fishing net and then adhered the whole thing to a Winter Wisteria card base with foam adhesive.

All is going well in baby and toddler world, except for showering. Emma throws a fit whenever I shower, I bring her bouncy seat from her swing in the bathroom, i sing to her, I even took the fabric shower curtain down so she could see that I'm still there through the clear curtain liner (which makes the shower chilly. boo to that!) but she wails like a banshee about 5 minutes after I start the water. (I've never been a fast shower-er. five minutes is definitely not going to cut it.) And just to make it a bit more fun, Bree pops her head in every other minute or so to bring me a new toy or ask me to fix one of her toys and to tell Em to calm down: "Baha colm down!"
Every day is a new adventure ☺
in other news:
I need this shirt:
I'm a wee bit obsessed, even Bree, who can't really talk well yet is starting to sing along with the soundtrack :)
I can't wait to catch it at the Kennedy Center next year! 😍

I'll be back tomorrow with another mermaid card!
