Create Along With Us: March 2016

hello! I've got a really pretty card (well I think it's pretty...) to share with you today!

I made this one for this month's Create Along With Us Challenge for Papertrey Ink.
I loved this card by Betsy Veldman:
and I thought it would be fun to try something similar with the Happy Day die cut!

I started out by die cutting the Oh Happy Day & it's frame (it's all one big pretty piece!) out of white cardstock and then coloring it with Copic Markers. Next I cut a piece of Aqua Mist cardstock to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and sponged some Aqua Mist ink on the bottom of it. I die cut the Happy Day out of the Aqua Mist piece, to use the negative background pieces. I loaded up a white card base with scor-tape and then carefully adhered the Aqua Mist background and the colored Happy Day pieces to it, putting all of the pieces together like a puzzle. I finished the card off with a few enamel dots in the center of the flowers! I'm super pleased with how it turned out, although i think i might have had better results with a less strong adhesive, I had to wiggle the pieces around to make them all fit right and the scor-tape is definitely not very forgiving or ready to let go of the cardstock :)

I can hear my daughter waking up, apparently nap time is over for the day! Have a great day!
(I'm going for a 3-D ultrasound tomorrow morning and get to find out if I'm having a girl or a boy!!! I'm so excited!)

rainbow butterflies

Good morning!

I've got a rainbow-y butterfly card to share today!

This one came together pretty quickly and easily. I die cut the butterfly cover plate out of masking paper and adhered it to a white card base. (and I should have added an extra big strip of masking paper around the edges, the top of my card was a little exposed so I ended up with red ink up there. oops.) After my mask was in place I used my ink blending tools to blend the ink in a rainbow pattern. I removed the mask, stamped my sentiment, and finished it off with some sequins. Rainbow colors make me happy in Spring :)

So yesterday's check-up for Bree wasn't too awful. Thankfully she didn't need any shots! The weather was awesome so we hung out in the backyard when we got home and I raked, swept the patio, and pulled weeds, the downside is that now my arms and shoulders hurt so much that I can barely move my arms. Biofreeze to the rescue! (and man do I wish I could take some naproxen sodium or advil, pregnant women don't get to take any of the good medicine!) Bree had a blast digging in the dirt and getting filthy, and then drenching me with splashing during her bath. (bath time is usually her Daddy's job, so it's extra fun for her to get to splash me...)

Anyways, I finished off yesterday by going to see Zootopia. It was super fun. Go see it :)

Make it Monday #242: Sponged Stamping

Hi there! I have a card for Papertrey Ink's Make it Monday Challenge today. This week's challenge is sponged stamping, I usually just ink selectively with the different ink pads, but I like the softer blended look from using the blending tool right on the stamp!

I don't love my card, but I'm counting it as a win just having finished it, with the crazy nausea I've had today. I stamped the sentiment in black on a white cardstock panel and then added the rain drops with Spring Rain and Blueberry Sky ink sponged on the stamps. I added some smaller rain drops in the Spring Rain ink, and then finished off the panel with rain stones and baker's twine. I cut and scored a piece of Blueberry Sky cardstock into a card base and stamped the chevron pattern on the bottom (and darn it if one of the chevrons didn't smoosh itself all ugly on the right side! grrr.) and then adhered the white panel on the card base to finish it off.

Bree and I have to go to the doctor's office today for her two and half years old wellness checkup. It will take forever (we regularly wait at least an hour for our appointments, which is super fun with a toddler.) and will not be fun. We might have to stop by Krispy Kreme on our way home to feel better :)

I have a pretty blended rainbow-y card to share tomorrow! Have a great day!

nothing today

Hi there.
I don't have anything to share today because exhaustion, insomnia, and a headache that just won't leave were kind of my constant companions this weekend and I didn't get to make anything to share. Hopefully I'll make something today and be back tomorrow morning with a card! Have a great day!

TARDIS card :)

Hi there! If you're not at least a little bit of a nerd you might just want to come back on Monday, this card probably isn't for you :)

Why yes, my TARDIS does spin around in space. I made this card for my husband a few years ago because nerdy handmade cards are awesome. I printed out the TARDIS and made a mirror image in photoshop, I actually did some surgery on a few different TARDIS pictures I found on Google because I couldn't find one that was exactly what I was looking for. I printed them both out and colored them with my Copics and sandwiched them with a piece of silver thread between them. I made a inner card for the inside with an ink blended front with shimmer splatters to look like outer space. I made the sentiment on the computer, printed it out and then die cut the circle and added the TARDIS. I die cut another circle out of a navy card base and then assembled the whole thing. Super fun. (although i think if I recreated it now that I could definitely do a better job on the outer space...)

Anyways, I was super sick last night so I didn't get a new card made, so that's why I'm finally sharing this instead! Have a great weekend and come back and visit on Monday!

Make it Monday #241: Ombre Stenciled Backgrounds

Hi there! Today I have a card for this week's Papertrey Ink Make it Monday Challenge. This week's challenge was to make an ink blended ombre background with stenciling.

I went with a green ombre background, using Mint Julep, Vintage Jadeite, and New Leaf Inks from Papertrey Ink. I used my ink blending tool to add those to the panel of white cardstock and then laid my stencil over my background and added the pattern using the same inks and my ink blending tools. Next I stamped the book in black ink and then masked it off to stamp the flowers and grass coming out of the book. (I made a card back in 2011 with the book and the flowers that I kind of ripped off for this card. It's been 5 years and it's still one of my favorite cards!) I colored the book with Copic Markers, stamped the sentiment in black ink, and then finished the panel off with some rain stones. I mounted the panel on a Berry Sorbet card base and it was done!

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and got to hear the baby's heartbeat, which is always a relief. I'm 14 weeks (and 4 days) along and everything is looking good! I tried to have a semi date night last night with my husband. We rented Ted from Redbox and made it about 30 minutes through before we couldn't take it anymore and turned it off. I just don't like comedies anymore I guess, just nerd movies and Disney movies, (and the best nerd movies are owned by Disney! Marvel > DC!)

Anyways, I will hopefully be back with a card tomorrow. (hopefully because I don't have anything actually ready yet, but maybe today during nap time or tonight after Bree goes to bed I can spend some time in the studio!) Have a fantastic day!
