fa, la, la, la, la,!

hello! I'm back and I had a fantastic Thanksgiving break, I hope you did too :)

I've got a simple-ish card today using Mama Elephant's Alpine Carolers set.

(I don't know what is up with this photo, the glow around the star is super subtle in real life and the star is more of a dull gold shade. weird.)

and here's the inside:

This card had a bunch of masking - seriously, every person and the tree were masked off at some point - but other than that it was a pretty quick card. I started off by stamping my people on a piece of Neenah cardstock cut to 4 1/8" x 5 3/8". Then I stamped the people again on masking paper and cut them out and masked the people off. I die cut a snowy slope mask and placed that over the people. Then I stamped the tree and star in the background. Finally I masked them off to do some ink blending. I blended some squeezed lemonade distress ink around the star and tumbled glass around the bottom of my sky. Next I removed all of my masks and did all of my coloring with Copics. I stamped the sentiment and the music notes in Hero Arts black ink. I pierced the holes in the bottom and tied a string of baker's twine through them. I mounted the panel on a gray card base with foam adhesive. I stamped the inside sentiment and music note on another piece of Neenah cut to 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" and adhered that to the inside of the card to finish it off!

We went to Ocean City in Maryland last week on Tuesday afternoon and stayed until Sunday afternoon in a gorgeous condo right on the boardwalk. (seriously, this place was like a palace, it had showers with 8 shower heads, chandeliers in every room, and a million breakable things to keep Bree away from) We were there with my 4 parents, a big group on Thanksgiving, and my stepsister came for a few days. It was a very chill vacation - there were plenty of other adults to watch Bree so I even got to take naps - it was wonderful! I was kind of worried that it would be hard to get back in the studio and start making stuff immediately - sometimes after a vacation it takes me a few days to make anything I like - but thankfully this card came together pretty quickly. This week I get to start this year's December Daily! I'm so excited to decorate my album cover (hopefully today)! I'm also hoping to design my Christmas card this week. I'm thinking this might be the picture for this year's card, what do you think? I can't really decide. :)

Anyways, thanks for stopping by! I'll be back with something tomorrow!

Seal-ed with a kiss!

hello and happy Monday! I have a cute & sweet Christmas card today :)

here's the inside!

This was a pretty simple card. I started by stamping the seals on gray cardstock (cut to 4 1/8" x 5 3/8") in My Favorite Things black ink and colored them with Copics. I masked them off and did some ink blending with Soft Stone ink over the grid stencil (I don't have very many stencils yet *hint hint Santa!* so the grid might be a weird choice here but I really wanted to ink up a stencil. so that's why the grid.) I stamped the mistletoe, hearts and sentiment. I added the baker's twine and then mounted everything on a red card base. I added glossy accents on the noses and the mistletoe berries. I added flocking on the white parts of the seal's hat and then as an afterthought I added some Wink of Stella shimmer to the seals. (Aren't they cute?! They were fun to color!)

Well my super busy weekend with parties, races, shopping, and a long to-do list got derailed when Bree & I both got sick on Friday. Instead we got absolutely nothing done and it was a very long and miserable weekend, and I might have broken my toe (at the very least I'll probably lose the toenail). So I am very happy that the weekend is over and that we're starting to feel better. This is a crazy week! My parents get here today (yay!) and then tomorrow we're heading up to Ocean City, Maryland for Thanksgiving! (I don't have to cook!) Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze out some time to make cards for the rest of the week tonight.

Have a fantastic day!

Gingerbread House Ornament

Hello and happy Friday! I have an ornament using the stamps and dies from Papertrey Ink's Petite Places: Holiday Lane today. It takes a bit of work but I think it's so cute and worth it! I have a video on how to save some time with your stamping with a MISTI which is especially helpful if you want to make a bunch of these for gifts. (or for your own tree because once you've made them it's kind of hard to part with them!)

It was kind of difficult to photograph this, so try and imagine it without all of the awful glare :)

To make these I started off by die cutting all of my pieces out Neenah Solar White Cardstock, I used the 3D house, the roof, the front of the house, the two front windows, the candy cane arch, the fence, and both tree dies. Then I used my MISTI to stamp all of them (once you get started it really doesn't take that long, I can stamp all of the pieces to make 8 of these ornaments in under an hour) I did stamp the front and back of the fence pieces, the candy cane arch, and the trees since you can see the backs, I didn't want them to be bare. The stamp for the chimney isn't at a neutral enough angle to stamp the back (if that makes sense) so I colored the back of the chimney with a Copic marker lightly since that would also be visible once it was popped up. I added some Distress Rock Candy dry glitter to the trees with a glue pen and set those aside to dry while I assembled my house. (for a video on assembling the house, I highly suggest watching Betsy Veldman's tutorial)After my house was built I added glossy accents to all of the peppermint and candy canes on the house and I used my wink of stella pen to add some shimmer to the roof. I cut a notch out of the base tabs to all of my fence pieces so I could curve them a little and then I scored all of my die cut pieces so they would stand up.
I die cut my circle out of Neenah cardstock so my house would have somewhere to sit in the ornament and started adhering everything down with score tape. (it took me 9 fence pieces to go all the way around my circle) Once everything was adhered I filled the ground of my circle with a layer of glossy accents and coated everything with the Distress Rock Candy Dry Glitter to hide the paper tabs from all of the dies. I used a few small pieces of scor-tape on the edge of the circle to keep it in place in the ornament and then filled the bottom of the ornament under the circle with tissue paper that I cut into 1/4" wide strips and crimped with my paper crimper (see mom? I told you the crimper was still a useful tool!). I finished the whole thing off by tying some baker's twine for the ornament hanger!

I love this gingerbread house. I mean I love gingerbread houses anyways, but this is my favorite. It's also the first 3D Petite Place die that I've assembled (I already own the sweet shop, the church, and the nativity scene, but I haven't put them together yet) and now I can't wait to make all of the others!

Today starts the craziness of the holidays at our house. I don't think there will be another day of "nothing going on" until December 28. Today I have to get an oil change, in preparation for going out of town for Thanksgiving next week, I have to pick up my race packet, for my 5k and half marathon this weekend, I have to do a little Christmas shopping and grocery shopping, A house near us that does an amazing light display is having their grand illumination tonight, my cousin is staying with us tonight since she's running the 5k with me tomorrow, and that's just today, I won't even start on all of the craziness of the weekend :)

Have a great weekend, I'll have all sorts of different stuff to share next week so I won't be sticking with a particular stamp set for next week's posts. See you Monday!
